Israelis and UK Entry: the ETA, and When You Need a UK Visa
A short note on UK entry requirements for Israeli passport holders: the ETA you need for a visit, and the routes that exist if you are moving. The detail lives on gov.uk.

Most people reading this are either coming to visit or already on their way. Here is the short version of what an Israeli passport holder needs, and where to go for the detail.

Before you fly
Israel is a non-visa nationality, so a short visit needs no visitor visa. What it does need is a UK Electronic Travel Authorisation, an ETA, approved before you get on the plane. It is digital and linked to your passport, so there is nothing to carry. You apply through the “UK ETA” app or on gov.uk, there is a fee, and one ETA covers multiple journeys of up to six months each.
An ETA is permission to travel, not a stamp that skips the border. A Border Force officer still makes the decision when you land.
Visiting is not moving
An ETA covers tourism, family, business meetings and short courses. It does not cover working for a UK company, living here by stringing visits together, or claiming public funds. Building a life in London means a visa route, which is a separate and more involved application. The main ones:
- Skilled Worker, with a job offer from a UK employer that holds a sponsor licence.
- Student, with a place on a course at a licensed education provider.
- Family, joining a partner, child or parent who is British or already settled here.
- Global Talent, for people in tech, research or the arts, through an endorsement rather than a job offer.
Each has its own salary, income, English-language and evidence requirements, and those change. Check yours on gov.uk, and consider a qualified, regulated immigration adviser before you commit to anything.
One thing that catches people out: UK immigration status is digital now. Instead of the old BRP card, your permission is an eVisa, an online record you reach through a free UKVI account. When an employer or a landlord needs to check it, you generate a share code rather than hand over a document.
